The next generation is facing ever-changing challenges. This is particularly true in a context where access to agricultural land is affected as much by its cost as its availability. Whether during business start-up, recovery or expansion projects, contingencies and uncertainties are serious barriers to entrepreneurship. It is therefore important to offer innovative solutions in order to contribute to the development of our youth, who are the future of our economic sector.
Therefore, in 2011, the Government of Québec, the Fonds de solidarité of the FTQ and Capital régional et coopératif Desjardins decided to create the Fonds d’investissement pour le relève agricole (FIRA). Its mission is simple: to facilitate access to farmland by offering innovative and flexible financing programs enabling young people to enjoy a degree of stability in their operations.
It is an honour for me to support the development and establishment of a new generation of young working farmers, whose success will ensure the health of our economic sector and the future of Québec agriculture.
